  i grew up as a jw believing that each creative day was a thousand years each.

  man was created on the seventh day and man's existence on earth was supposed to have been six thousand years back in 1975.. however, this wt article on reconciling science and the bible says something different that i never picked up on in my later years as a jw.

  (i guess i blocked it out better than i thought)for example, when we understand that the bible uses the term "day" to represent various periods of time, we see that the account of the six creative days in genesis need not conflict with the scientific conclusion that the age of the earth is about four and a half billion years.

  The Hebrew language is a difficult one but the experts say that a 24 hour day is what it means.

  Uh, when you consider 48,000 years as opposed to billions of years then teaching it was done in six 24 hour days is not any different. God SPEAKS things into existence. It just happens and no time period at all is even needed!

  >Dr. Humphreys is to science as the WTS is to the bible. His "science" is so bad that his publications have continously been rejected by the International Conference on Creationism (ICC - a technical conference for creation "scientists").
  What does that have to do with THIS article?

  How do you know that his prsuppositions are in error or that yours are correct, are you an authority?

  Hi Dan,
  You get into generalizations that are not true. You have no proof that the core mentality is the same. You only have incidental evidence and at the same time you deny the individual responsibilities. When Islamists mame and kill they are being true to their prophet's teachings. When Christians obey Christ they are ministers and servants to others.
  No, I am not a dominionist and I do not believe that they teach that war will bring about the conversion of the earth. BTW, 'being salt and light' on the culture that we live in IS a solid principle and that can include politics.

  You are missing the point, Eagle. First of all, the whole judgement idea is not based on what earthly group you belong or don't belong to. It is based on the INDIVIDUAL'S heart condition, "We are saved by grace through faith and that nor of ourselves, it is a gift of God not of works, lest anyone boast". Eph. 2:8-9
  There is plent of backing scripture on that subject. Jesus said that we must be 'born again' to enter or see the Kindom of God. NONE of this is based on some human based organisation. There are plenty of Chrsitians who do not fight in wars and their stand is based on scripture, not on the windbag pontificating of the twilve minor popes in Brooklyn!

  Just an idle thought here. We know the Watchtower is a false prophet many times over. The Branch Davidians, Jones' People's Temple and Heaven's Gate all believed in the 'End times'. How many other cults have 'bit the dust', I wonder? It looks like we may be already in real pre-tribulation period. So, do we think like Alfred E. Neuman, "What, me worry?"
  My own eschatological outlook is more preterist than premillenial but things do look very bad....my advice is to 'get saved' and have some real reason to have peace of mind.

  how does a benevolent and loving god explain away his ecological system whose very persistence relies on the killing and suffering of animals that have fear and pain receptors and know when they are about to get it?
